2. Brain of Supply Chain System (4 Pages)
by Ashfaque Ahmed
Jun 19, 2004
Abstract : A software tool called advanced planning and optimization, APO, for short, is used to make a supply chain system cost effective and integrated. Since this tool works on top of all other software tools which are used to plan, monitor, and control supply chain activities and control them, APO can effectively be called the brain of a supply chain system. This article explores advantages of having an APO tool for managing supply chain functions even if a business already has invested in a supply chain management (SCM) system. If a company has not made the investment then the APO tool can be used together with the upcoming SCM system.

3. The Essential Supply Chain (4 Pages)
by Steve McVey
Dec 28, 2002
Abstract : Supply Chain Management (SCM) once viewed as a way to obtain a competitive advantage, is now perceived as a logical and necessary extension of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The reasons: First, traditional ERP systems lack the advanced planning tools necessary for companies to respond to an increasingly competitive business environment. Second, advances in computing power and data transmission enable disparate entities to communicate efficiently and at a low cost. Finally, vendors have observed the complementary nature of SCM and ERP and are engaged in consolidation of their product suites.

Abstract : Where Supply Chain Management (SCM) was once viewed as a way to obtain a competitive advantage, companies are now beginning to perceive it as a logical and necessary extension of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). There are several reasons for this trend. First, traditional ERP systems simply lack the advanced planning tools necessary for companies to respond to an increasingly competitive business environment. Second, advances in computing power and data transmission enable disparate entities to communicate efficiently and at a low cost. Finally, vendors have observed the complementary nature of SCM and ERP and are engaged in consolidat

9. ERP and SCM Implementations Part One: Doing Too Much Too Soon (3 Pages)
by Joseph Strub
Apr 8, 2004
Abstract : In order to get ahead of the systems development power curve, companies are attempting what is equivalent to executing a quadruple jump in ice skating; running a sub 3:50 minute mile in track; and winning the Tour de France in cycling--all in the same year. How? By trying to implement enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM) software at the same time. Read on why this is an ill-advised course of action with an extremely low probability of success.

10. PeopleSoft Gathers Manufacturing and SCM Wherewithal Part One: Recent Anouncements (3 Pages)
by P.J. Jakovljevic
Jan 24, 2004
Abstract : Hiring the former APICS president to head its manufacturing industry efforts a year ago, the high profile acquisition of renowned manufacturing ERP provider J.D. Edwards this summer, and most recently, the acquisition of demand flow and lean manufacturing software solutions from JCIT, might indicate that PeopleSoft has finally gotten its manufacturing creed. Will these moves finally and lastingly establish it as a serious contender in the manufacturing enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM) space?
