1. A Guide to Software Test Tools (9 Pages)
by James Lyndsay
Apr 27, 2005
Abstract : Testing a system well is harder than building it. In the face of new risks introduced by the ever-increasing complexity of software and hardware, test tools may be your only practical way to be confident that you've got just what you paid for. From gathering the initial requirements to supporting the system after it has been deployed, test tools are available to support all phases of a project. This article looks at the ways that test tools can be used to design, code, and (of course) test a system.

5. A Case Study and Tutorial in Using IT Knowledge Based Tools Part 2: A Tutorial (7 Pages)
by E. Robins
May 31, 2001
Abstract : This tutorial, part 2 of a two part series on Knowledge Based Selection, demonstrates the selection processes and capabilities of Knowledge Based Selection Methods and Tools. These tools, integrated with business decision making procedures, can arguably reduce selection risk and improve chances for success in IT projects. Given the appalling rate of IT project failures, selection can potentially help reduce risk in some 30% of cases, with an associated estimated cost of about $30B annually to industry according to some sources. In this tutorial, we illustrate a number of the procedures for rapid decision processing through the real-life selection of a PDA device. The process gave confidence to the argument to wait for the solution, while weighing risk against return.

by E. Robins
May 30, 2001
Abstract : In going through a business decision process for complex technology selections, more and more use is being made of technologically driven processes using Decision support tools and captured knowledge. The use of these systems and the capability to drive a solution from them assumes an ability to accurately express business requirements and business value within these tools. In this article, we explore the marriage of knowledge management and decision support in forming knowledge based selection systems and procedures that can assist in reducing the current appalling record of IT project failures. This is illustrated by the process to select a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).

TEC was coined "the Rolls-Royce of decision support tools" by ZDNet

Business decision support, IT consulting, research, technology vendor, technology market, technology trends, Helping People Make Technology Decisions: in IT, procurement, RFP, eRFP, RFI, eRFI, DSS, DSA, and much more. eBestMatch reduces the time and cost associated with selections. Community of senior IT professionals including CEOs, CIOs, CFOs, CTOs, VPs, directors, and managers. Representing the highest on-line concentration of technology managers, directors, executives, and consultants. RFP analysis research, RFI comparison software, evaluation consulting, procurement consulting, analysis consulting, enterprise software consulting, decision data knowledge bases, government evaluation services, and Test-tools.

Q: How different is the TEC Evaluation Center from other sites with superimposed vendors' data (features/functions)?
A: The main difference is the fact the TEC Evaluation Center relating to Test-tools uses a combination of extensive vendor analysis coupled with the powerful analytical capabilities of eBestMatch™. Vendor data is third party evaluated and is fully impartial. The depth of analysis goes far beyond features and functions; it includes elements such as Corporate Strategy, Flexibility and Viability. This gives all vendors an equal playing field. When this data is entered into our Knowledge Base and viewed through the eBestMatch™ engine, it becomes an invaluable tool for analysis -“the Rolls Royce of Decision Analysis Software”(ZDNet).

Q: How is 'Percent Match' calculated?
A: The Percent Match calculation demonstrates the real power of the eBestMatch Engine. The Percent Match is our patented calculation that helps IT decision makers avoid some of the problems with simply using a weighted average (the “Ability to Meet Criteria” like Test-tools for Test-tools) calculation is a weighted average. This calculation becomes useful when the decision maker wishes to consider the consistency of scores across all of the criteria in addition to the vendors’ Ability to Meet Criteria calculation. The eBestMatch Engine runs through patented algorithms to generate a Weighted Average Composite Index (WACI), which is a number between 0 and 1. A WACI of 1 indicates that a vendor’s scores were very consistent throughout the RFI. Those vendors with a WACI below 1 have inconsistencies in their scores across the RFI. The degree to which the scores are inconsistent determines the WACI. The Percent Match is a simple calculation of: The Ability to Meet Criteria (x) WACI.
